Callaway Gardens 2009
The first paint out for this year will be Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Callaway Gardens. We will paint anytime during the regular garden's hours. We hope the gardens will be in full bloom! If you go, remember to stay on the paths, and please be friendly to other garden visitors.
Eric has secured free passes for painters. If you would like to receive one, or if you need a ride, call Eric Maddox at 706-494-1882, or contact him by email at gallery808@yahoo.com.

| Paint Out at Callaway Gardens
The Columbus Artists’ Guild painted together at Callaway Gardens on Saturday, April 21, 2007. Free entry was given to Guild artists who signed up to paint. Our paint out started at 9:00 when the Gardens opened, and ended at 6:00 when it closed. The azaleas were beautiful, and there was a large group of us up there.

Paint Out I, “Country Landscape with Cindy Harden”
The Columbus Artists’ Guild joined Cindy to paint the beautiful woods around her house on May 19, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. As always, we brought what we needed to survive in the woods. Cindy promised wildflower covered fields, a creek, and hardwood trees, and we were not disappointed! She secured parking for us nearby.

Paint Out II "Dowdle's Knob"
Our paint out at Dowdle's Knob was on July 21 from 8:00 till 1:00. As promised, the temperature was a good 10 degrees cooler there than in Columbus! The view was inspiring, and the life-sized statue of Roosevelt was a nice companion as we painted and took photographs. Quite a few hikers and family groups came by and took an interest in what we were doing there. We worked till we got tired and hungry, and then retired to a Pine Mountain restaurant for gourmet sandwiches and ice cream sundaes. A perfect day to share with artist friends!

In 2006 the Columbus Artists’ Guild Held 4 Paint-outs!
Paint Out I, “Beaver Run”
On May 17, 2007, members of the Guild met at the first lake of Beaver Run subdivision to paint the landscape. The day was cool, the water picked up a bit of a ruffle in the afternoon. There were a number of ducks and geese, and a few visitors!
Paint Out II, “On the River with Milton Lenoir”
Saturday, May 27, eighteen CAG artists and friends met on the Alabama side of the Chattahoochee River Walk to paint and photograph that beautiful place from 8 till 1:00. We thought it would be awfully hot, but the shade and the breeze off the river made it lovely there. The ever-changing sunlight, and the comings and goings of many fishermen gave a wealth of subject matter. GA Power opened the floodgates, and we even had cascading falls for a while! It was a day to remember, full of art and good friends.
Paint Out III, “The Country”
Helen Fuller invited the CAG to come to her beautiful farm in Ellerslie to paint and/or photograph the country landscape on August 16th. Five of us braved the summer sun and were rewarded with a beautiful day, and a cool breeze! Some painted the lake; some painted or drew the newly plowed field of red, Georgia clay. It was a sheer pleasure to spend the day in a location with such a wealth of luscious subject matter. Nothing prettier than the cool, moist morning light on a blue-green Bermuda grass hay field! Helen has invited us to return in the spring. Maybe next time we’ll hike the woods, sketch the horses, or swim in that creek!
Paint Out IV, “Cooper Creek”
Ten bundled artists braved the chilly morning October 14 to paint, draw, and photograph Cooper Creek Park. Nell Spettel could hardly move for the many layers of clothes. It warmed up, though, and many folks stopped by as they jogged or walked dogs to ask questions, or remark about the work in progress. Gloria Smith’s husband and little boys played soccer while we worked. It turned out to be so much fun, everybody wanted to do it again. This is one activity we can do together as artists that no one else can.
